Best Large Compost Tumblers: The Top 5

Tumbleweed Compost tumbler

Tumbleweed Compst TumblerThe Tumbleweed compost tumbler is a simple yet very efficient compost tumbler and one that sells extremely well.

And if you read our review you will see exactly why.

Not only is it more than affordable it is built to be very sturdy and is certainly perfect for everyone that wishes to make a good amount of compost in a very short space of time.

See the Tumbleweed compost tumbler page for more information.

We are sure you will be more than happy if this is your final decision. You can pick from black or green, simply depending on what appeals to you the best. We prefer black is the extra heat generated usually ensures that compost is made in the shortest time period.

Achla CMP-05

Achla Cmp-05The Achla CMP-05 is our favorite of the bunch but not currently the bestseller (although it was previously), which does kind of come as a surprise. As it is a vertical model it is certainly very easy to use.

A simple spin of the drum requires little effort and it is one of the cheapest options too.

It may simply be that it requires a little more space than other models which stops it from being the most popular, but the price more than makes up for this.

It is definitely the easiest model to use. Read more details on the Achla compost tumbler page.

Lifetime Compost Tumbler

Lifetime Compost TumblerThe Lifetime compost tumbler is another horizontal model, but slightly more compact looking than the Achla.

Still more than enough capacity for nearly every garden.

And the great low price makes it another option certainly worthy of interest.

Horizontal models are our favorites, so read our review to see just why.

See the Lifetime compost tumbler review for a lot more information.

It looks great and is certainly going to give compost in just a few short weeks. Nice and compact yet with a large capacity makes this one of the best choices for the home gardener.

Mantis Dual Chamber

Mantis Dual ChamberThe Mantis dual chamber compost tumbler is something a little different.

It may be more expensive but it is the most versatile of all models.

Ideal for those that want to make a maximum amount of compost with a minimal amount of fuss.

The ability to fill up one chamber and then move on to the next makes it the best way to always have a steady supply of compost that is ready to use.

See the Mantis dual chamber compost tumbler review for more information.

This is a large drum and unfortunately it is reflected in the price, but there is no doubt that for the avid gardener it is a fine pick indeed.

Envirocylce Compost Tumbler

Envirocycle ComposterThe Envirocycle compost tumbler is last but by no means least.

The unusual thing about this model is that it looks small but holds a great capacity.

It is perfect for the home composting fan as it takes up minimal space but is very easy to use and it is certainly very effective.

If you want one of the cheapest compost tumblers then this is a great pick.

See the Envirocycle compost tumbler review page for more information.

More Information: Video Reviews

It seems appropriate to show videos that we have found on Youtube of our top 5. It saves you having to search around there, as frankly, a lot of the ones we found were simply promotional with no real information at all.

Not the best video, but the only one we could find. A shame because we love it so much. Take a quick look anyway at this Achla compost tumbler video review.

Hopefully our guides on the relevant pages and the videos, some good, some not so, will allow you to make an informed decision about just what the best large compost tumbler to buy really is.

There are a number of different compost bucket options available, each with their own benefits and often their own limitations too. This article is designed to be an overview as to what is available for kitchen compost buckets to help you make a more informed decision. You can then take a look at each option in turn or simply pick what you know will be most suitable for you. Before we look at the options in more depth here is an overview of what you can choose from. From very cheap compost buckets with lids to compost pails, and a surprise option too.

Please simply use the links to navigate to what you feel will be most suitable and what you are going to get the most use from.

Compost Buckets

Here are the best options that I have been able to find. Only the best compost buckets that have good reviews from consumers or I have first hand experience of have been chosen.

Exaco Trading ECO-2000

The Exaco Trading Eco 2000 compost bucket is relatively large in its capacity, has replaceable filters for an odor free kitchen and allows you to easily collect kitchen scraps until it is time to take them to the compost heap.

Very inexpensive and perfect for keeping you from making daily trips to the composter. A great best price compost bucket.

Great customer reviews make this a cheap but good choice for many keen kitchen composters.

Large Kitchen Compost Bucket

Almost exactly the same as the Exaco but with a slightly larger capacity and the ability to site under a cabinet out of the way but still in a convenient place.

This is the second most popular plastic compost bucket and performs simply but very well. The only drawback is that they are not objects of great beauty, but they are extremely convenient so it is a matter of weighing up looks, if they are to be in the kitchen, against function and capacity. If they are to be kept outside or not in sight then they are the perfect cheap solution.

Norpro Compost Keeper Stainless Steel

A firm favorite and the best looking by a very large margin. Low in price yet with looks that mean it can be kept on the counter for ease of use.

This is what I personally have and it is the best there is. No smell and a stylish design actually enhances the look of the kitchen. Used for over a year it still shines like it is new and it has never given off an odor. And that is with just rinsing out the filters, not buying new ones! With a capacity slightly half of the plastic compost buckets it means more trips to the composter but if under cupboard storage space is an issue (it is for me), then this is the best.

BioBag MaxAir Compost Bucket

Innovative? Yes. Good reviews? Yes.

The BioBag compost bucket is something slightly different. It comes with bio-degradable bags that allow air to flow through, decreasing bacteria and moisture and therefore odors. You do need to change the bags regularly but that is not really a chore as they go on to the compost heap. Personally I don’t find them the prettiest of things but the lid is hinged so it can be hung on the inside of a cupboard door.

Picking A Compost Bucket

The final decision should be made once you have read about each option or you simply know that you want something that looks great as well as being functional (i.e the Norpro compost keeper).

The BioBag actually has the biggest capacity by a slight margin but is probably the worst looking. But if it is to go in a cupboard or in a room off the kitchen then it may be the best choice. For a low price then the simple green compost bucket with lid is about as good as it gets.

Not the most stylish but certainly the cheapest and with a good capacity. Take a look at each product where I go in to a lot more detail about the good (and bad) points of each option in turn.

Happy Composting

Whatever you do decide to buy the main thing is that we keep on composting. If it means a daily trip to the compost heap, or compost tumbler, or only now and then if we buy a compost bucket, the main thing is to ensure we do not let our kitchen scraps go to waste.

With landfill getting out of control a few dollars is certainly money well spent. It allows us to collect days worth of scraps with no trip to the compost heap and means we are also creating a very high quality compost to use on our plants or vegetables.
